Oil & Natural Gas 4 miles of 20” Steel and 16” HDPE Waterline > Projects > 4 miles of 20” Steel and 16” HDPE Waterline IKPS installed approximately 6,855 LF of 12” HDPE DR9 in conjunction with either a 20” Steel or 12” Steel pipeline into one common ditch for both pipelines. The project included a 16” cased bore and a stream crossing. The waterline tied into an existing 20” HDPE waterline that the client was using for conveying fresh water to well pads for fracking. Since most of this line was placed into a common ditch with a steel pipeline, we excavated a wider ditch than usual. HDPE lays differently than steel, so the pace of installation was significantly different. In addition, there were two winch hills, and the tie-in to the existing waterline was in a difficult location due to the 20” steel gas crossing at the same location.
