Marine Annapolis City Dock – Bulkhead And Boardwalk Improvement > Projects > Annapolis City Dock – Bulkhead And Boardwalk Improvement KEY CHALLENGES & PROJECT DETAILS Annapolis City Dock is the heart of the city’s waterfront, a long time focal point of Annapolis tourism and quintessential to local business Project consisted of the replacement of the entire dock between October 22, 2007, and the 300th anniversary of the Charter of Annapolis on April 15th, 2008 Challenges included the compressed six month schedule, limited land space, tides, storms, and winter construction Contract had a no time extension clause for any delays Additional challenge to construction was added by the historic nature of the city of Annapolis Closures of dock, boardwalk, and Ego Alley, which were necessary during construction, required critical planning with local businesses impacted adversely by closure 12 crews worked two shifts, seven days a week Installation included 960 LF of steel sheeting bulkhead, 97 50’ HP 14×89 piles, and 15,000 LF of 12” DIA timber piles Installation included new finger piers along Ego Alley Installation included new cabling and upgraded electrical network Construction included removal and construction of boardwalk Project included reconstruction of Susan Campbell Park, including removal and replacement of 17,000 SF of brick pavers, existing park furniture, water foundations, bollards, hardscaping, and landscaping Project completed ahead of schedule and at a cost below the engineer’s estimate Project completed with no recordable or lost time injuries PROJECT DETAILS: Project Owner: City of Annapolis, Maryland Location: Annapolis City Dock Annapolis, MD PROJECT AWARDS INCLUDE: 2008 Maryland ASCE Outstanding Project Award Close
