Transportation FLY ASH POND DAM

INSIDE THE PROJECT

In Brilliant, Ohio, Å®ÓÅÒùÍÞÅàѵӪ constructed a very challenging dam raising project. Due to increased capacity needs of the Owner within the existing limits, the dam needed to be raised an additional 13 feet. The solution to building this on a small footprint was to install back-to-back mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls constructed on top of the existing dam. Seepage was controlled by installing vinyl sheet piling through the roller compacted concrete zone of the existing dam and into the clay core.

The existing emergency spillway was raised using mass concrete and traditional cast-in-place concrete training walls to direct flow into the channel. The project also required improvements to an existing single-lane access road providing access to the work area from a local county road.

Å®ÓÅÒùÍÞÅàѵӪ met the challenge and completed according to schedule.
