Transportation I-75 Downtown Toledo Reconstruction Projects A, B & C

Å®ÓÅÒùÍÞÅàѵӪ reconstructed and added capacity through a six mile stretch of I-75 in downtown Toledo. The I-75 corridor is the most heavily traveled in the area with ADTs exceeding 115,000. Å®ÓÅÒùÍÞÅàѵӪ was awarded three separate contracts for this work, but the work was managed and constructed as a single project to provide the department with the best value for this major rehabilitation and upgrade. The three contracts required staggered construction start times due to the aggressive nature of the schedules.

Work items included the reconstruction of 20 structures and construction of three new bridges, as well as roundabouts, barrier walls, and retaining walls. Major quantities included 62,250-square-feet of noisewall, 11,500-linear-feet of concrete barrier, 1,700-cubic-yards retaining wall concrete, 202,000-square-yards cement stabilized subgrade, 400,000-cubic-yards excavation, 12-million-pounds of structural steel, and 27,500-linear-feet of storm sewers, and piling.

The centerpiece of the project was the demolition and reconstruction of the 2000-foot-long, 60-foot-tall I-75 mainline bridge spanning over Berdan Ave., the Ottawa River, the Norfolk Southern Railroad, and Detroit Ave.
